Description

Through this activity, we show you a typical workshop with which we usually work for the transformation of spaces while introducing didactic units. From an educational point of view, we work on three clear objectives: geometry, nature, through different materials such as wicker and bamboo, and finally, manual skills and creativity.

From the objective of geometry, a didactic unit introduces us to the workshop with the explanation of the figures and especially with the revolutionized figures: ellipsoid, paraboloid and hemisphere, with which we are going to work.

From nature, you are invited to work with natural materials, wicker and bamboo, and also with natural processes linked to the world of basketry in both current and traditional terms.

And in reference to creativity, once the common geometric shapes are known, the challenge is launched to the participants to create their own natural shapes since the geometries can also be free.

The activity is structured in three phases. The first of them is the theoretical phase where different geometries are shown, where these shapes come from and their applications in the world around us, where if we observe, we can find infinity of them.

The second phase consists of the construction of models of the different geometries: ellipsoid, paraboloid and hemisphere. Ideally, participants should break up into small working groups and work with 1/10 scale models. This activity encourages teamwork and cooperation, as well as manual dexterity.

And finally, the third phase also focuses on group work, but this time on a large scale, so in this case we will face reality, the 1/1 scale. At this stage we will make use of wicker and bamboo, so that we constantly work in relation to nature and its techniques. The ultimate goal of this part and the entire workshop is to build our classroom in a natural setting. The ideal is to carry out this activity in the schoolyard, in a natural environment, so that our structure can be planted on the ground and get it to sprout again to reach our final objective, which is to achieve a LIVE ARCHITECTURE.
